When I talk to women about PMS, one of the major concerns that I have is how younger women and teenage girls are learning about PMS. Mostly, this concerns me because if we are not talking about PMS, then we are passing on the legacy of PMS as a taboo subject. Granted, almost every mother gives the basic talk with her sex and pregnacy talk that includes the statement “you can come to me about anything,” but are we really encouraging young girls and teenage girls to discuss the topics around PMS?
My fear is that we are not! Why?
Perhaps because our mothers did not discuss PMS with us, so we never thought it was ok to talk about cramps or PMS headaches.
Maybe because the topic of PMS is approached in a sterile way of medical terms with a 1950’s film that it does not seem to be a safe subject.
It could be the connection between PMS and sexuality (entering childbearing years) that scares most parents away from the topic.
Either way, without a firm understanding of the PMS symptoms coming her way every month for the next 30+ years of her life, a teenage girl will resist the planning that can help her ease the pain of PMS every month.

We are not taught to PMS proof our environment for safety. Instead of preparing for PMS every month, we wait to react to the cramps, mood swings, headaches, and bloating that come with PMS. The best way to PMS proof your home is to talk to those you love about your PMS symptoms and let them know what is going on in your life that causes everything from PMS acne to PMS anger!
Although this might sound like a painful proposition in itself, I use the following guidelines when talking to others about PMS:
Be direct about your PMS. Let the person you are talking with know exactly what your subject is going to be. If you use words that avoid that subject, like “monthly visitor” or “your friend,” then the confusion is more likely.
Be specific about your PMS symptoms. If you are general using words like “my back hurts,” then you could have a pulled muscle. Tell the person you are talking to that you get cramps that hurt in your stomach and back. It is not as painful as the PMS to communicate.
Give the person you are talking to methods to help you through your PMS. By giving them hints as to how to help you with your PMS, you give them solutions and help yourself. Remember–PMS knowledge is power!
Lastly, dont forget to sign them and you up for FREE PMS alerts!

Many women are taken by surprise every month when PMS hits and they feel the frustration of something simple, like running out of chocolate chip ice cream, sending them on a PMS rollercoaster ride of anger, mood swings, and nausea. Somehow, my PMS symptoms always sneak up on me right in the middle of a crazy outburst about something that really would not matter to me any other time.
Some great examples of my PMS tragedies are:
My favorite wine at my favorite restaurant is sold only by the bottle….not by the glass.
My favorite TV show is replaced by an hour of political debate.
My husband has a slightly heavy tone in his voice (after all, he can’t be tired right?)
The quickest way to avoid the tragedy and drama associated with PMS is is to be ready to treat the PMS symptoms of PMS every month. Get your FREE PMS alerts to let you know when PMS is coming and be ready!

I, like tons of other women, live in fear that the mood swings, nausea, and bloating are really pregnancy instead of PMS. I dont think that I know a woman that has not considered atleast once in her life that she MIGHT be pregnant when her PMS does not lead to the other PMS symptoms she has become accustomed to once a month, she runs right off to the drug store to get the closest Early Pregnany Test on the market.
Unfortunately, the female body, even though it is an amazing creation, is not a time clock. Sometimes, stress, anxiety, medications, and lack of sleep can lead to changes in your hormonal PMS cycle. Because some PMS symptoms are similar of pregnancy, it is always better to invest in a little piece of mind to make sure you are not pregnant if your PMS cycle does not start with in reasonable amount of time. Sometimes, that trip to the drugstore can save you tons of sleep…and if might save you some tense moments during your next mood swing. Plus, it gives you an excuse to pick up some ice cream, but that is another PMS symptom!

As if PMS does not bring enough drama into our lives every month by making even the simplist of hills seem like mountains, PMS can make everything seem amplified by causing more stress and trama by inflicting physical symptoms. Several of these PMS symptoms can be easily addressed by the following methods:
Anxiety: If anxiety is causing you more drama in your life, then you might want to up your intake of Vitamin B.
Depression: If you are suffering from depression during PMS and a natural cure like calcium or Omega3 does not work, then talk to your doctor about medication that can help you manager your depression.
Insomina and Tension: For both of these stresses, you can try valerian root to help calm your nerves and make sleeping easier.
No matter what PMS symptoms you are experiencing….dont let them stress you out!

Many women battle the breast pain, breast tenderness, and bloating that accompany PMS. For many of us, there are over the counter medications that can help with the many symptoms of PMS, but the thought of taking medicines that are not holistic cures or natural make many uncomfortable. In order to relieve these PMS symptoms, you can try these natural ways to relieve the three Bs of PMS!
Breast Tenderness:For a natural cure, try evening primrose oil to make the pain go away.
Breast Pain: Pain in your breasts during PMS time can make even the thought of wearing a bra impossible. Try alittle Chastleberry to take the pain ways.
Bloating: First, avoid salty snacks. Salt retains fluid in the body and cause PMS weight gain. A little magnesium will help you with the pain.

I am often times asked what helps me through PMS the most. This is a giggle moment for me because women rarely believe me when I say a PMS party. Now, this can take several forms from a nice trip to a day spa for complete pampering and relaxation while surrounded by all women to inviting my circle of girlfriends over to watch a chic flick with snacks while we do each other nails. The reality is that the possiblities are endless to end your PMS depression!
Try some of my PMS favorites:
Meet with the girls at your favorite toy store and shop for a new vibe. Studies show that vibrators help PMS cramps!
Plan to catch a movie with your best girlfriend in the middle of the day. Taking a day off from work to just window shop as you walk through town or catch a movie is very relaxing. The exercise and fresh air will help you PMS symptoms as well as the support.
Got to your local drug store and stock up on lots of cheap nail polish that you would love to try. At 99 cents a bottle, it does not have to make it through a week of heavy texting, just a day of PMS partying as it is passed from girl to girl.
For the PMS party, tell each girl to bring a PMS gift under $5 wrapped to the party without a name tag. Then number them and draw lots.”
If you are usually civic minded, then go to work for an hour or two to do some community service to make something good out of your PMS. The addage is true about helping someone else through their suffering help you feel better about your own!
Sure, some of these things are completely corny, but you will surprised how quickly your PMS depression will disappear into laughter and silliness! ~~Dee
